Top Foods Athletes Should Eat for Nutrition

Nutrition food

The beginning of a new year usually means people start to evaluate their diets. While we don’t always recommend trendy diets, we are all about nutrition at House of Gains – especially healthy foods athletes should eat

The team at House of Gains put together a list of the top foods athletes should eat for nutrition. We work with many different body types and athletes with varying weightlifting techniques and priorities, so we tried to keep our nutrition suggestions well-rounded. Check them out below!

Bananas

Bananas are not only high in potassium, but they are also a great source of electrolytes. Many athletes rely on bananas for a great energy boost before a workout and as an aid to recovery post-workout. Regardless, they are packed with vitamins and a top food on the nutrition scale.

Salmon

This one probably isn’t a shock if you’ve been in the weightlifting world for a while, but salmon is packed with nutrition and is definitely food athletes should eat. Omega-3 fatty acids are a must in a nutritious diet, whether your exercise focuses on long-distance running or heavy weightlifting. Omega-3 fatty acids have tremendous benefits, and athletes often incorporate them into their diet to reduce inflammation.

Oatmeal

Not everyone loves eating oatmeal, but anything with high fiber is a food athletes should eat for nutrition. Because of the fiber, oatmeal is extremely satiating and helps athletes sustain energy for longer periods of time. Don’t be afraid to make it tasty with other nutritious foods like bananas, berries, nut butter, flaxseeds, and even milk!

Yogurt

There is a lot of discussion about proper “gut health” in the world of nutrition, and it’s important for athletes to keep this in mind. Yogurt is a great probiotic with gut-friendly bacteria to improve digestion. Doctor it up just like your oatmeal, and reap the nutritional benefits of calcium and Vitamin D.

There are many foods athletes should eat for nutrition, but this list is a great place to start if you’re new to the game.
